A <strong>number of news portals</strong> such as the <a href="https://www.verbraucherzentrale-bawue.de/aktuelle-meldungen/digitale-welt/onlinedienste/kostenfalle-statt-vignette-so-zocken-fakeseiten-ab-108501" rel="nofollow">Verbraucherzentrale Baden-Württemberg</a> (01.07.2025), the <a href="https://www.allgaeuer-zeitung.de/italien/vignetten-betrug-in-oesterreich-auf-diesen-trick-sollten-sie-auf-dem-weg-zum-gardasee-nicht-reinfallen-11-6-25-109146439" rel="nofollow">Allgäuer Zeitung</a> (11.06.2025), <a href="https://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/verbraucher/fake-shops-online-betrug-verbraucher-100.html" rel="nofollow">Tagesschau</a> (20.05.2025) and <a href="https://www.br.de/nachrichten/wirtschaft/vorsicht-vor-falschen-pickerl-bei-oesterreichbesuch-asfinag-warnt-vor-fakeshops,UhyZD6s" rel="nofollow">BR24</a> (12.04.2025) have reported on the danger of scam websites and specifically pointed out fraud when purchasing vignettes.</p><p>We would like to give you tips on <strong>how to recognize fraudulent websites</strong> so you don't fall into the fraudsters' trap and lose money.</p><h3>Take a closer look at the website's links (URLs)</h3><p>As soon as you visit a website you don't yet know that advertises products for sale, you should <strong>check the URL</strong>. Pay attention to whether the link contains <strong>unusual characters or spelling mistakes</strong>.</p><h3>Cheap doesn't mean legitimate</h3><p>Fraudsters often exploit the desire for a bargain. Be especially cautious if a <strong>product is offered comparatively cheaply</strong>. There have already been several cases where invalid vignettes were purchased and fines subsequently became due.</p><h3>Payment methods</h3><p>It is a warning sign if only <strong>advance payment</strong> is offered as a payment method. Reputable shops usually offer several payment methods such as credit card or PayPal (buyer protection). Never carelessly share sensitive data such as credit card numbers, passwords, or TANs.</p><h3>Legal notice (Impressum)</h3><p>A reputable website always has a <strong>complete legal notice</strong>. This includes the name of the managing director, company address, contact options, and commercial register entries.</p><h3>Checking the contact details</h3><p>Check the details provided. Use the address to verify whether the company actually exists.</p><h3>Trustworthy seals</h3><p>Fake websites also use seals. Therefore, always additionally check the <strong>other criteria</strong>. A seal alone does not guarantee safety.</p><h3>Finally: The overall impression</h3><p>Watch out for spelling mistakes, poor grammar, or unprofessional texts.
