Renovation Works in Vorarlberg

From 2 March, construction works will begin between Bregenz and Wolfurt-Lauterach (A14 Rhine Valley/Walgau motorway), together with the second phase of renovation works in the Pfänder Tunnel. These measures aim to increase safety on Vorarlberg’s motorways.

Renovation Works in the Pfänder Tunnel

In the Pfänder Tunnel, the operational and safety systems in the eastern tube will be renewed. Most of the renovation work will take place at night, meaning traffic in the eastern tube will only be restricted during nighttime hours (8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.). To ensure that travel through the Pfänder Tunnel remains possible, a contraflow traffic system will be set up in the western tube. However, the maximum speed limit will be reduced to 60 km/h. The renovation works are scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2026.

Outside of the nighttime closures, both tunnel tubes can be used without construction restrictions. In addition, the Pfänder Tunnel will remain free of construction works on high-traffic public holidays and on weekends.

Construction Works on the A14

In addition to the Pfänder Tunnel works, the second phase of construction for the renewal of the roadway surface and drainage system in the three-lane section will also begin. The works on the A14 (between Bregenz and Wolfurt-Lauterach) will also start on 2 March. During construction, two lanes will remain open to traffic. The works are expected to be completed by mid-July 2026.
