Dachstein Road (Special Toll)
What is the Dachsteinstraße?
The Dachsteinstraße is located in Styria and is often used to reach the Dachstein area near Ramsau am Dachstein. This route is subject to special toll (also known as route toll). Therefore, regardless of whether you already hold a vignette or have paid a route-related toll, an additional fee must be paid to use the Dachsteinstraße. More information on the costs of the special toll can be found on the official website of Schladming-Dachstein. In addition, you can read more details in our guide about the special toll and other routes subject to the special toll.
Exceptions to the special toll
If you are traveling to Austria, you should definitely include the Dachstein Glacier in your travel plans. A special feature of the special toll on the Dachsteinstraße is that it does not apply if you are a cable car passenger. You can validate your special toll ticket at a machine at the Dachstein mountain station, making the use of the Dachsteinstraße free of charge for you. The cable car at the Dachstein Glacier takes you to the glacier's popular viewpoints. If you plan to visit the attractions of the Dachstein Glacier, such as the Stairway to Nothingness or the suspension bridge, and want to use the cable car anyway, you shouldn't be deterred by this special toll route. More information on the unique Dachstein Glacier can be found in our guide.
