Austria: A10 Spittal Ost exit closed on three weekends (October/November 2026)
Starting September 7, 2026, ASFINAG will renovate the access ramps and the bridge of the Spittal Ost motorway exit on the A10 Tauern motorway in Carinthia. In the course of the construction work, there will be complete closures of the interchange on three weekends in October and November 2026.
Affected is one of the most important north-south connections between Salzburg and Villach, which also carries travel traffic towards Italy and Croatia. Travelers passing through Carinthia in autumn 2026 should take the closure dates into account when planning their route.
The three closure dates at a glance
The Spittal Ost interchange will be completely closed from October 23 to 27, 2026, from October 30 to November 2, 2026, as well as from November 6 to 8, 2026. The focus of the work is on the southern ramps, the renovation of which is expected to be completed by November 27, 2026. The detour leads via the roundabout at OBI and then via Rothenthurn back onto the motorway.
Further construction sites on the Tauern motorway
The work at Spittal Ost falls at a time when ASFINAG is already carrying out renovations at several other locations on the A10. Further south, the general renovation of the Tauern and Katschberg tunnels is taking place in parallel. Anyone traveling on the A10 in autumn 2026 should therefore generally plan for additional travel time.
Toll in Austria
In Austria, the vignette requirement applies to cars, motorcycles, and motorhomes up to 3.5 t gross vehicle weight. For vehicles over 3.5 t gross vehicle weight, the distance-based toll applies instead, which is collected via the so-called GO-Box. In addition, there is a separate special toll in Austria on certain tunnels and mountain pass roads, which must be paid there independently of the vignette or GO-Box.
